The Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail starts at Beechenhurst Lodge in the heart of the Forest and is 7km (4.5miles) long. It takes 2-3 hours to walk, although there are short cuts which may be taken if desired. It is a walk that will captivate the imagination and stimulate awareness of this beautiful natural environment. The Trail, which was established in 1986, focuses on contemporary, context - led sculptures. NEW WORK 2008 by Annie Cattrell, international artist entitled "Echo". This work is a direct cast from the surface of a Forest quarry,a dimensional impression of roots, rocks and pine needles in glittering metalic resin. A new work by David Cotterrell Hill33 will be launched in September 2010. Acclaimed works by David Nash, Cornelia Parker, Neville Gabie, Randall Page and Ian Hamilton-Finlay are amongst the inspiring site specific works along the trail. There is no admission charge - but there is a charge for car parking (season tickets available). Refreshments are to be found in the Beechenhurst Lodge Cafe, also great kids/adventure play area,visitor information point and toilets. Open 7 days. The GUIDE to the Sculpture Trail can be purchased in the Cafe. 'Phone to check disabled access and Coaches, dog entry.
The Trail is managed in partnership by The Forest of Dean Sculpture Trust and The Forestry Commission. The Charitable Trust raises funding for commissions and selects artists. The Forestry Commission maintains the sculptures, trail and associated facilities. The Sculpture Trail offers a wonderful family adventure in the heart of the Dean.
