About Our Areas - Gloucestershire

Gloucester

Tallship Cathedral

Historic Gloucester, home to the magnificent 900 year old Norman cathedral the historic docks, Tall Ships Festival, Gloucester Old Spot pigs and the delicious Double Gloucester cheese nestles between the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds. The ancient Cathedral was used recently for the filming of three of the Harry Potter films and for an episode of Doctor Who.

A fascinating city, it\'s heritage shows that it has always been one of the country\'s most prestigious locations for shipping, industry, kings and culture. A walk through streets of medieval architecture and narrow alleys crammed with shops, cafes and restaurants, open on to the boat and barge filled Victorian Docks and the National Waterways Museum.

Also within the Docks are the Antiques Warehouse, The Quays, the new state of the art designer retail centre with 100 shops. The magnificent River Severn and the canals can be enjoyed by taking a boat trip from the Docks.

Gloucester has a variety of Museums and Galleries, the Gloucester Guildhall, a cinema complex, theatres and vibrant festivals in July and at Christmas. Regular local produce food markets every Friday. A flourishing creative sector regularly exhibits in various (often unexpected) venues across the city.
